kodi_small_faceBlackjack is an 11lb, 9 month old adorable male and another of the lucky Havanese to be rescued from a puppy mill.  As is true of most dogs when they first come into rescue, he is frightened of hands.  His foster mom is working hard to gain trust and build his confidence, and he is slowly beginning his journey in small, positive strides.

blackjace_kodiHe does come to his foster mom but very slowly.  He loves treats so this is a great lure for one with a good appetite!  Bones too are a big favorite with Blackjack.   And he very much loves to eat!  Blackjack came into HRI very, very thin so a first goal is to help him gain some weight.  Sounds like this may be an easy goal!

When you hold Blackjack he relaxes only if you tell him “what a good boy” he is and give some good ear scratches.

He enjoys his foster brothers and sisters and is learning behavior cues from them.  He hasn’t had a chance to leash walk yet; he’s still a little timid and uncertain and it may be too much to ask of him yet.  As we learn more about him and watch him progress we’ll post any news.

Blackjack loves toys that make scrunching noises, like paper.  When he goes outside he is very fast and sprints, zigs and zags around the yard and runs like he means it (the sweet taste of freedom and grass under their paws is such a joy and celebration).  And watching that sweet puppy face is a treat for anyone who happens to be with him
He’s doing very well on housetraining too.  Blackjack would do well in a home with other dogs to run with.kodi_and_bone
