Mocha is a sweet two-year old chocolate colored Havanese. Although small (weighing just over nine pounds), he is a sturdy dog who loves his long daily walks. He goes or, to be more exact, prances five miles without slowing down and despite his enthusiasm for everything outdoors, he is already catching on what “heel” means.
Mocha comes from a home where he was not loved. Despite his rough start in life, he has warmed up quickly to his new foster family. This little guy is so eager to please that he often looks at his foster mom for reassurance that he is doing the right thing. He listens intently when talked to. He is still a little reserved with strangers, adults and children alike, but will eventually let them pet him. Once he has overcome his initial fear, he soaks up all the attention he is getting.
He gets along well with the two resident Havanese and he would happily run and play with them if they were inclined to do so. He is friendly toward strange dogs but does not like it when they are overly rambunctious.
Housetraining is going well. He does not signal when he needs to be let out but he will go potty when his foster sisters have to go.
Mocha just started to show interest in playing with toys, but he usually entertains himself well by following his foster mom around the house (which gives him quite a work-out since there are four levels with steep stairs) or by chewing happily on a bully stick. At bedtime, he goes happily into his crate and sleeps quietly until morning. During the day, when his mom is gone for a short while, he stays in his crate without complaint - but greets her with great enthusiasm when she returns home.
Mocha is a great traveler and has gone on several longer trips. He adjusts quickly to his new surroundings.
Mocha is looking for a low-key home where he is loved and reassured that he is a good boy. He will do well as an only dog or with other dogs as long as they are not too overbearing. He is a quiet dog who loves to be with his people, and he is a wonderful companion.
Mocha is being fostered in MN.
