Sweet Darcy was found by animal control wandering the streets of a large Pennsylvania city, and so at the age of approximately 18 months, she can be labeled a survivor. Because she was clipped and in good physical condition we believe Darcy was once a part of a family. Now she is in the loving arms of HRI who promises surviving will be replaced by thriving and fear by trust and unconditional love.
We can happily report that, after ten days, Miss D. is doing very well and is enjoying life in her foster home. Darcy weighs about ten pounds and has the most beautiful cream coat with sable tips. One look at that sweet face and your heart just melts. She remains a bit skittish (the opening of the garage door still frightens her) and is wary of strangers, but, as she becomes accustomed to her surroundings and gains trust, her bad memories should fade.
Darcy is a "kissing monster" and will sit on a lap for hours and happily eats the kibble mixed with homemade food served in her foster home. She enjoys resting in the big comfy chair in her foster mom's office and is warming up to the other dogs in the home. She is very laid back and not at all high-energy, despite her youth.
Darcy's life was changed forever when she discovered the toy basket in her foster home, most especially the plush seagull with it's distinctive call. Her foster family has discovered she is quite the accomplished retriever as she returns the toys over and over!
Darcy remains a work in progress, as her time in foster care has been so short. The warm weather has helped to encourage her toilet training and she does seem to understand the concept and is very proud of herself when she is successful. She was a quick study on leash walking and strolls up and down the street in the sunshine. Clearly she is crate-trained and she willingly goes in and settles herself with no fuss.
Darcy will need a fairly quiet, stable home with someone present most of the day. She seems to be one of the special Havs who don't require another canine companion, so we are looking for a currently dog-less place for her to live. In fact, unlike the other Havs in her foster home, she will often seek out the teenagers of the household for attention and snuggles. This sweet baby is a survivor who wants nothing more than the love and acceptance of someone with a big heart and perhaps a few treats in their pockets.
Darcy is being fostered in PA.
