Sam over shoulderSeniorAdvantageIconSam is a 15lb, 9yr old healthy, purebred Havanese.  He is a happy, happy boy – particularly when he gets the run of the house or yard.  He loves exploring, taking his time to smell everything.  You see, he doesn’t hear so well and he doesn’t see very well either, but his nose works great!

Sam’s eyesight and hearing have been diminished since birth so he has had plenty of time to learn to be cautious and use his other senses to their fullest.  It’s a little surprising how very well he gets around.  He takes stairs without a problem and readily jumps up on the couch to say hi.  His foster mom has been working on a system to call Sam into the house, using his name and a series of “claps”.  Once he hears the familiar sound of her voice and/or hand clapping, he will follow that sound until he finds her.  It’s working out well and she can easily call him in from anywhere in the ? acre yard.

Sam had his teeth cleaned and lost a couple teeth but says he doesn’t miss them and feels so much better!  Now he’s learning to use his toothbrush!  He’s not real impressed with it yet, but tolerates it.  Sam stands easily for a bath and other grooming activities, such as nails and ears.  Sam is crate trained, travels well and sleeps all night without accident.

Sam is being fostered with 2 adult German Shepherds and 1 adult Havanese.  He gets along with everyone!!  He also readily approaches people to say hi.  He would prefer to be the only “little” dog; he plays well with his Hav sister, but doesn’t like to share my lap with her very much and he LOVES a good lap and some cuddling!!

Sam is house trained, although will need a pee pad if left for lengthSam fronty periods of time alone.  He barks only to let you know that he needs to go out or needs some attention and will make someone a wonderful companion.

Sam is being fostered in Montana.
