RosieCloseUpRosie has the sweet face of the dragon Falcor in “Never-Ending Story”! She is a delightful, sweet, funny girl who will be a great addition to someone’s family. At one-and-a-half years old, she is at that perfect age: She has all the enthusiasm and curiosity of a young pup, but is house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. Although she is not a purebred Havanese, she has the gay, affectionate, intelligent Havanese personality.

Rosie has an adorable habit of literally jumping for joy. She leaps straight up in the air (but not onto you) when it’s time for a meal, a walk, or a snack. She also dances on her rear legs. Rosie likes to drape herself over the back of the sofa so she can see out the window. She loves walks and exploring the world. Butterflies, moths, birds, squirrels, and lizards fascinate her. She is excited when she encounters deer and horses, and is very good with other dogs.  She can play enthusiastically with a 70-pound lab, loves every person she meets, and is happy and gentle with children.

Rosie is very, very smart, and is quickly learning “Sit,” “Stay,” “Far out” (to potty), “Heel,” and “Leave it.” She quietly tolerates baths and loves being brushed. Rosie particularly enjoys cuddles and belly rubs. She focuses intently on her people, is eager to please, and has a melting, soulful gaze.

Rosie does not like to be left at home, even with another dog, for more than a few hours. Like most Havanese, she needs to be with her people to be happy. She has a history of barking if she is startled (as when she met her first horse!), or when she’s bored or feels abandoned. She has learned to curb that behavior in her foster home and knows what “No barking!” means. She usually obeys the command, although she often adds a little “Woof!” just to express her opinion!

Rosie’s ideal family would include someone who is at home most of the day. She uses a dog door and needs a fenced yard. She sleeps in her crate at night, and often chooses to nap in it during the day. She would enjoy and benefit from taking an obedience class with her new family.
