margaret_small_faceMargaret is a beautiful 3-4 year old female Havanese, weighing about 16 lbs. Her start in life sadly began in a puppy mill but more importantly has been following her amazing journey and the privilege of watching this amazing little girl mend her body, mind, and spirit.

When Maggie (as her foster mom calls her) first came to us she was leery of being touched, afraid to be picked up, shy, and lacked confidence. As time passed with her foster mom and a lot of hard work, the miracle of the ‘real’ Maggie began to unfold.  Each day seems to offer something new about Maggie.

Margaret has no idea she has only 3 legs; she does most everything all her foster brothers do including playing and running around the yard (shmargaret2e dearly loves the yard), investigating anything that looks new, apparently loving her new found freedom and rolling in the grass. Her foster mom has a special sandy area in the yard for all the dogs to dig and Maggie is right in the middle with the rest. She’s a pro at running up and down the stairs, does well on a leash, and loves to go on walks even up to a mile. One of her foster mom’s favorite things to watch is when she comes home and Margaret is lying at the top of the stairs. She is like a wind-up toy….first the tail starts going around and around, then she gets up and starts wiggling all over and she turns in circles growling the whole time in what can only be described as sounding like a motor boat. Yes, Maggie has some very cute ways of communicating.

Margaret is truly the quintessential companion; whatever her foster family is doing is exactly what she wanted to do and she insists on being included in everything. She loves to go on walks and going to the dog park where she will touch noses with other dogs, butMargaret_at_Park she generally stays close to her foster mom. She is comfortable in everyone’s arms at a facility for those with memory loss and she loves to go in the car; she’s always up for another adventure.

She is perfectly content to amuse herself as well, with an assortment of chew toys and stuffed animals; she has favorites like her teddy bear that she loves to carry around, but likes variety too. She prefers the small, plush squeaky toys and has a merry time holding her head high with one in her mouth and shaking her head from side to side.

Margaret is not afraid of crowds as long as she has her mom in sight. She is a little fearful of strangers, but her confidence is growing day by day. She is housebroken, and is comfortable either in or out of her crate. She is a very good eater, and would like to sample whatever you are eating but is very polite about it.

She is a very sweet and gentle girl, and of course a ‘Velcro’ dog as she should be. Maggie prefers nothing more than to be on the sofa with her mom and family, cuddling in a lap. She’s not able to easily jump on furniture and appreciates your picking her up.
Margaret’s wish list is for at least one family member to stay at home with her most of the time and willing to share everything….like flyingearssnacks. And it would be best if she were an only dog. Margaret’s foster mom has also whispered to her she’d find a home where she would get to sleep on the bed with her forever person.

Margaret is the happiest dog you can imagine with a tail that never stops wagging. It will take a very special family to have the privilege of Maggie as a forever family member.
