Nala and Simba are a couple of Havanese who do not want to be separated. Nala is 14-months old and Simba is her 7-month old “brother”. They came to HRI from a very loving family.
The pictures show both dogs because the two are usually together. They support one another, share toys and food, and gleefully play with each other. Although Simba is younger than Nala, he is put in his place by Nala when he becomes too enthusiastic with his play. She will correct him, as his mother would, and he listens! Sometimes, she just walks to him and gives him a kiss on the nose or a nuzzle on his neck. He will do the same to her.
Both pups are housebroken and content to be on their own in the house for a few hours. They walk well on their leashes, and enjoy riding in the car with their car seat belts on.
Simba is more stubborn than Nala. If there is something he doesn't want to do, he can find a way to avoid you (such as hide under our king-size bed, right in the center). He knows no one can reach him. He is very clever for such a young puppy. However, if he sees Nala being petted and told she is beautiful, he will give up his attitude and come over to get pets too. Of course, they both like laps and affection from their humans.
"The kids" have decided to sleep under our bed. They sleep all night and gently wake me if one needs to go outside. Of course, if one has to go potty, so does the other. They are totally a team!
Both show willingness to learn whatever I want to teach them.Their youth is a positive in that they aren't totally set in their ways. They know where the treats are kept and love when I go to the door telling them they are such great puppies. If they are barking without reason, I tap them and say, "Hush" and they do settle down........OK a couple of quiet “brr-uffs" come out because they like to have the last word.
Laughter will follow Nala and Simba where ever they go. I love to see four eyes and white heads pop out from under our dust ruffle. They sit and look at you with (I'm serious) smiles when they want to be played with, or one will bring a toy and drop it at our feet.
They are happy, energetic pups with a sense of humor, and lots of love to give. Below is a video of them their first day in foster care.
Nala and Simba are being fostered in Georgia.
This dog is iin our "Foster To Adopt" program, which means he's being fostered by his eventual adopters. Information on the program may be found here. Participation in this program may increase your chances of adopting a Havanese.
