HRI Katrina Rescue |

Lorraine Newland, an HRI volunteer, arrived at Lamar- Dixon in Gonzales, LA to assist in the care of the pets left behind. With the approach of Hurricane Rita, She was allowed to remove the animals to safety provided they kept all family groups together to make reunification easier. Lorraine headed out with Hurricane Rita on her heels with the 5 plus a Poodle, a Shih Tzu, and a smiling Pit Bull! A special thanks to Lorraine, as well as Paul Hohne who helped with the driving and care, Jenny French, Lu Wyland, Jane Hohne, and others. Already 4 have been reunited with their families. ASPCA has granted a Reunification Award for each dog, and IMOM has granted the Love Bug Award for our participation. Great job!

In Loving Memory of Mira Deara |

Mira crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on October 30, 2005 following her battle with Lymphoma. Mira was truly a rescue volunteer, and attended numerous display booths and state fairs with Lu. She touched so many lives. She'll be truly missed. Sincere thanks to the Independent Havanese Club for their Mira Fund to defray vet expenses. Donations gratefully accepted.
