RodrigoFaceHow about a gentle hello to one of HRI's new guys? Rodrigo is a 16-pound, six-year-old, very handsome black and tan boy with the sweetest and most gentle disposition. He hasn't been with his foster family for very long, but he has adapted nicely to life in a home very different from the one he came from.

Rodrigo1Rod is getting a tune up soon! He'll get thorough teeth cleaning and a neutering and then he will be ready to move to his forever home. Because of his shyness, a quiet home with someone who's around most of the day will be needed. He is a shy dog and will require owners with patience to spare. He may not come to you at first and he'll need lots of help as he learns to trust. He needs a bit of construction work, too. You see, he lacks confidence, it's a part of the whole shyness package, so Rodrigo will require lots of "good dog," "sweet boy," and your special loving affirmations. Rodrigo was crated a lot in his former home, so toilet training is an on-going project that is going quite well.

Bedtime is Rodrigo's favorite time of day. Maybe not sleep time, but more, hang out on the bed with the other dogs and his foster parents, time. As with many shy dogs, the bed seems to level the playing field, everyone is at the same level, and Rodrigo is no exception. As he becomes more comfortable in his surroundings you will find he moves closer and closer to you in the bed. In fact, he loves the down duvet so much, he would head up to the bedroom much earlier in the evening if he could.

Rodrigo is buddies with the three other dogs in the house and has learned how to eat his meals at certain times, rather than the grazing that he did in his first home. Picking at his food all during the day isn't an option with three other voracious eaters in the house!

Take a look at the checklist below. If you meet Rodrigo's needs and can travel to south central Pennsylvania, please consider adding Rodrigo to your life. As with most shy and sensitive dogs, the time investment in patience at the start is rewarded with more love and devotion you could ever imagine. These dogs become the most loyal of companions. Rodrigo is guaranteed to become the love of your life!

  • Fenced yard
  • Other dog/s in the home
  • A household full of patient people, one of which is around most of the timeƊ
  • Teens in the house are fine, but not necessary, Rodrigo has never been around young children.
  • Experience with confidence-challenged dogs is a plus
  • Did we mention the need for patient owners?
  • Toilet training experience and persistence
