Desi, born the end of December 2006, is a delightful little Hav with a lot of attitude. He also has a congenital deformity of his front left paw. Because of this, he does not use his left leg much and it has significantly atrophied. He will need special support the rest of his life to help slow or prevent the onset of arthritis in his other limbs. Desi benefits from chiropractic support and takes daily supplements. He also would benefit from some physical therapy exercises and possibly access to a pool.
An adoptive family for Desi will have ready access to the appropriate veterinary support for Desi. A search at this website http://www.holisticvetlist.com/ will allow you to see how close you are to the kind of vet care he will need. (Chiropractics has proved beneficial for him. He will also receive a more thorough rehab evaluation before he is adopted.)
Desi loves human attention. He can be very bossy with other dogs and has some resource guarding issues, but has learned to play well with his foster sisters. He does some chasing of cats but listens when he's told, "no." He loves toys, sleeps in a crate at night and is pretty reliable with house training if he's with a dog savvy person who can read his signals. You can see some videos of Desi on youtube:
Desi is being fostered in Wisconsin. A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. The application can be found on our website at www.havaneserescue.com. You will not be considered until we have the completed application.
